UAA Womens Basketball Team Leave Fairbanks in the Dust, 98-46

Nikki Miller and Kelsie Gourdin tied for the teams game high score of 16 points to more then double the Nanooks on the scoreboard as the Seawolves walked away with a 98-46 victory over Fairbanks.

UAA Womens basketball team defeat Central Washington for the second time this season

On Saturday night, the UAA womens basketball team increased their winning streak to 4 as they defeated central Washington for a second time this season 76-52.

The womens basketball team defeated #5 ranked Western Oregon last Saturday night. Nikki Aden had the team score of 13 points with four steals.

Washington State guard Klay Thompson crushes San Diego, sets record

In what turned into a rout, the Washington State Cougars claimed the men's 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title, defeating the San Diego Toreros 93-56.  Washington State guard Klay Thompson had the highest scoring game for a player ever in the Shootout, scoring 43 points, including 8-13 shooting from beyond the arc.  The all-time scoring record was previously held by Glenn Robinson, who scored 41 points for Purdue in 1993. 

UAA can't overcome Houston's quickness, places 4th in Shootout

For the battle for third-place at the 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, UAA lost to the Houston Cougars, 57-73.  Although UAA out-rebounded Houston 36-23, the Seawolves turned the ball over 18 times.  At the end of the first, UAA trailed 25-37, with guard Brandon Walker leading all scorers with 13 points.  The Seawolves shot just 33% from the floor, while Houston managed a 56% clip.  

Oklahoma finally wins one at the Shootout, places 5th

In what started out as a close game, the Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Nicholls State Colonels, 81-60 for 5th place in the 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.  Even though Oklahoma outshot Nicholls State by 15% in the first half, the Colonels went into the locker room with a 39-37 lead.  In the second half, the Sooners shut down Nicholls State's offense, allowing only seven points in the last 11 minutes of the game.  Oklahoma scored 24 in that same stretch of time. 

San Diego wins, heads to Shootout Championship game against Washington State

Today's snowfall may have affected the outcome in game six of the men's bracket of the 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, as the San Diego Toreros beat the Houston Cougars, 72-65.  Houston, whose practice facility during the Shootout is at South Anchorage High School, was not allowed to practice do to a power outage at the school.  Whether or not that played a factor is anyone's guess.

Washington State remains undefeated, advance to Shootout Championship game

In the fourth men's game of the 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, the Washington State Cougars continued their undefeated season, improving to a 5-0 record, with a 78-69 win over the 0-7 Nicholls State Colonels.  

Although Washington State shot 53% from the floor in the first half, the Cougars still trailed NSU and their 39% shooting, 29-31.  In the second half, WSU dialed up their offense by a notch, shooting 63% from the floor, and outscoring the Colonels 49-38.
