Washington State guard Klay Thompson crushes San Diego, sets record

By Will Caynor - Posted on 28 November 2009

In what turned into a rout, the Washington State Cougars claimed the men's 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title, defeating the San Diego Toreros 93-56.  Washington State guard Klay Thompson had the highest scoring game for a player ever in the Shootout, scoring 43 points, including 8-13 shooting from beyond the arc.  The all-time scoring record was previously held by Glenn Robinson, who scored 41 points for Purdue in 1993.

San Diego shot 34% from the floor, overshadowed by the Cougars' 63% shooting.  Washington State also totaled 24 assists, while the Toreros managed an abysmal 10.

This year's all-tournament team included UAA's Malcolm Campbell and Brandon Walker, Washington State's Klay Thompson, Reggie Moore and DeAngelo Casto, San Diego's Brandon Johnson, Chris Lewis and De'Jon Jackson, Houston's Aubrey Coleman and Kelvin Lewis, and Oklahoma's Tiny Galon.  Thompson was also named as the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

From the 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, I'm Will Caynor.
