Washington State guard Klay Thompson crushes San Diego, sets record

In what turned into a rout, the Washington State Cougars claimed the men's 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title, defeating the San Diego Toreros 93-56.  Washington State guard Klay Thompson had the highest scoring game for a player ever in the Shootout, scoring 43 points, including 8-13 shooting from beyond the arc.  The all-time scoring record was previously held by Glenn Robinson, who scored 41 points for Purdue in 1993.

UAA can't overcome Houston's quickness, places 4th in Shootout

For the battle for third-place at the 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, UAA lost to the Houston Cougars, 57-73.  Although UAA out-rebounded Houston 36-23, the Seawolves turned the ball over 18 times.  At the end of the first, UAA trailed 25-37, with guard Brandon Walker leading all scorers with 13 points.  The Seawolves shot just 33% from the floor, while Houston managed a 56% clip.

Oklahoma finally wins one at the Shootout, places 5th

In what started out as a close game, the Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Nicholls State Colonels, 81-60 for 5th place in the 2009 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.  Even though Oklahoma outshot Nicholls State by 15% in the first half, the Colonels went into the locker room with a 39-37 lead.  In the second half, the Sooners shut down Nicholls State's offense, allowing only seven points in the last 11 minutes of the game.  Oklahoma scored 24 in that same stretch of time.
